Volunteer organizations can be challenging. During a fundraiser, we realized that our 501(c)3 status had been revoked. We realize that this is an irresponsible position to be in and we will never make this mistake again.

In order to remedy this situation, we have filed a 1023EZ online and a 990N that should be accepted after the 1023EZ is processed. Our FEIN number will be the same, but we will have another Internal Revenue Service determination letter with a new date. In 60-90 days we expect to have our nonprofit status back and the reinstatement should be retroactive. Our loss of tax exempt status may only affect individuals who itemize their taxes and for-profit businesses who need to deduct their sponsorships. Based on what we have read, we anticipate having our non-profit status back in June or July. We have made arrangements with Arts WI to be our fiscal sponsor.

Kory Macy has stepped forward to take over as treasurer and she will be backed up by Jerry Chernow and his bookkeeping collective.

We hope to emerge from this a stronger organization. Thank you for all the support you have given us so far and we hope you continue to do so in the future.
